Kate & Dominic – 7th December 2019
Grade I Listed Country House
Kate and Dominic’s wedding took place on a cold December day at Ashridge House, a Grade I listed country house in Hemel Hempstead. I’ve photographed lots of weddings here at different times of year and I always seem to discover something new about the venue. It’s located in the heart of the Hertfordshire countryside and boasts acres of beautifully landscaped gardens and decorative architectural features which work perfectly for portraits. One of the things that makes this historic wedding venue such a popular place for weddings is the exclusive access to all the ornate rooms in the house. It meant that Kate and Dominic were both able to get ready in the same place without the risk of seeing each other before the ceremony.
Bridal Preparations
Kate got ready in the Hoskins room with her mum, bridesmaids and two young sons, Max and Leo. She wore a stunning Grace Lamming gown with pretty beaded detailing paired with a stylish pair of satin white shoes. There were a few happy tears when the girls saw Max helping his mum put her wedding shoes on and giving her lots of cuddles! The bridesmaids wore sparkly gold and blush dresses and classic white bouquets with matching pink ribbon – perfect for a winter wedding!
The Ceremony
Kate and Dominic have been together for over ten years and have two beautiful boys who couldn’t wait to be a part of the celebrations. The staircase in the grand hall provided a beautiful backdrop for the couple to elope.
Portraits on the Staircase
Due to the time of year, we didn’t have long before the light went so most of the portraits were done at night. As an Ashridge House wedding photographer, I love an opportunity to get creative! I used different lighting techniques to make the most of the beautiful interior like the grand staircase and tall arches.
Country House Wedding Reception
Despite being a little nervous, Kate’s dad gave an amazing speech followed by funny and heartfelt words by Dominic and his best men. Their eldest son Max even did an impromptu rendition of “When Santa Got Stuck Up the Chimney”! I left the couple dancing away surrounded by their favourite people. Thank you for letting me capture you special day. I hope to be back at Ashridge House photographing another wedding soon. If you’re looking for a wedding photographer, I’d love to hear from you!
