Cheryl got in touch as she was looking for a family photo shoot to celebrate the arrival of her beautiful daughter, Lily. She loved the idea of having the shoot at home to keep baby as happy and comfortable as possible – and so she could get a few photos with her gorgeous labradoodle!
Photographing Babies at Home
At just eight weeks old, Lily was a bit unsure of the camera at first but she soon warmed up. We allowed lots of breaks for feeding and cuddling to keep her feeling happy and relaxed. Cheryl and her husband had a stunning Victorian home in Watford with big windows letting lots of light into the room. I moved a few pieces of furniture around and took some pictures off the wall to get some simple, neutral backdrops to work with.
8 Week Old Photo Shoot
Cheryl was concerned that she’s waited too long to get newborn style photos. Even though babies are a bit more awake and less flexible this age, it’s still a lovely time to have a family portrait session. I tend not to pose too much so age doesn’t matter as much, it’s all about capturing the connection you have as a family.
For this shoot, I tried to keep the lighting and backgrounds as simple as possible to give the photos a timeless feel. If you’re looking for a Watford family photographer, I’d love to hear from you!
