Whitstable Portrait Session – Sophia

Holly and Dave have been friends of mine for years and I’ve photographed their little girl, Sophia, on numerous occasions. The previous shoots mostly took place at their home but this time we decided to get some on Whitstable beach. It was a sunny November day and Sophia looked so cute in her white woolly hat, pink mac and black Hunter wellies. She played catch with her dad, looked for shells on the beach and threw pebbles in the sea. One of the things I love most about shooting family portraits outside is that kids have a lot more freedom to run around. Consequently, they tend to enjoy the session a lot more, leading to better expressions and better photographs.

Sophia’s cousins joined us for the second part of the session and we got some great shots of them playing on the beach and racing their scooters. The colourful beach huts provided the perfect backdrop. It was a pleasure to go back to Kent to photograph this lovely family and I can’t wait for the next shoot!
